We spend a few minutes getting ot know our awesome new Gymnastics coach, Caitlin Wollaard! What an awesome Gymnastics career she has had.

Were you a gymnast yourself? Yes, for the past 18 years

Where did you train? I started at Campbelltown City Gymnastics, then moved to Narellan Gymnastics Studio for 10 years, before Phoenix Academy and then Sydney Olympic Park.

What was the highest level you achieved? Competed Level 6, trained to level 8.

Greatest achievement or best skill performed? Being awarded a scholarship to the Gymnastikhøjskolen i Ollerup, Denmark and training in Denmark for a year before travelling around Denmark and Germany performing with the team from the Gymnastics School.

Favourite apparatus to compete? Floor

Why did you become a coach? It was a natural progression from training, as is being a judge. I continued with the sport because I wanted to teach and support others in gaining skills and share my passion for the sport.

What is your coaching experience? I began coaching 10 years ago, starting as a recreational and KinderGym Coach. Then moving into Woman’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) levels coaching, before coaching Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) competitive levels as well.

What is your approach or philosophy about coaching? Gymnastics coaching is not just about teaching the skills of the sport but also discipline, perseverance, dedication, time management, endurance, mental strength and other skills to succeed in life.

What are some coaching success stories? Last country championships 2016 one of my gymnasts placed 3rd overall for Level 4. Also Gymnasts achieving skills they didn’t feel comfortable of then becoming comfortable with them and reaching higher.

Why did you choose SGAC as your employer? For the sophistication and diversity of the facility and the opportunity to improve my knowledge and skills in a range of Gymsports, particularly in my chosen disciplines MAG and WAG.

We're super excited to have Caitlin on board! Make sure you say hi to her next time you're at SGAC!
